The SCOOP is a young, innovative and fast-growing Irish non-profit who seek to Support Children Out Of Poverty by supporting their education and communities; their passions and their talents; their needs and their futures. And by offering them the level of education and opportunity that they would not have had the access to otherwise.

We believe that every child on this Earth has the right to an education and equal opportunities, regardless of their class, race, gender or economic situation. Factors such as poverty, corruption, greed, ignorance and set class systems are man-made evils and barriers that are destroying our world, our future and our children. It is time for change, and it is time for you to get involved...

We are based in Ireland but we focus on developing schools, education and a better quality of life for children and their families in Cambodia and India, and, with your help and participation, hope to work in other countries and with other communities all around the world.

We work off a tight low budget of around $100,000 a year, which we raise through our own events and campaigns, but we are growing up fast and becoming an inclusive think-tank-type organisation that is quite different from the other business-like charities who rely on shaking buckets, manipulative advertising, bothering people at home or on the streets and, not to mention, have folk on salaries that are more than our annual turnover! It's time for a new type of charity that is true to its word and driven by the kindness of people/volunteers and not by the need for salaries and grand office spaces...

We are quite proud of what we have accomplished in our first proper year, given the financial freak-out that has gripped our county and indeed the world, and we have a great plan and outlook for the future so we can build a bigger, better and more transparent organisation, build more schools in the Developing World and ultimately help more and more children and their families to better futures...

An inclusive, hard-working and different thinking charity, the SCOOP are only at the beginning of their journey and ask you to join them. We are proving that young people cannot only get involved in charities at a high level, but they can also become the change they want to see in the world.

The SCOOP became a registered charity in Ireland in July 2010, though we had all been fundraising individually for about 2 years previous to this. We were brought together after returning home from various trips abroad where we had each encountered schools, orphanages or certain projects that had made a huge impact on us, and upon returning to Ireland, we were compelled to continue supporting them the best we could.

Two years later, and a charity formed, we are now supporting 3 schools in the Developing World and are forming a unique and different NGO to any seen before.

Why education?

We believe that education is the key to creating new avenues for disadvantaged children, and that a school works as the centre of a community, creating a caring and loving environment around the children.

Our aim is to fund, support and suggest as many different elements to life and the learning experience to these children and to support the people and grass toor organisations that share our vision.

Education in all its forms: Since beginning operations, we have noticed that the children we support relish any learning opportunity, albeit a new word in a new language, or a certain skill they can use recreationally, for fun or, better still, to gain employment in the future, even if it's just the chance to be creative, the list is endless, and these are the skills and opportunities we all take for granted here in the West.
