SCOOP Poker Open. May 2009

Our first event took place in Pygmalion on South William St., where we hosted a poker tournament. Alas the day took place on the same day as Africa Day, which I'm sure you'll all remember being one the most beautiful day on record, so numbers suffered a little. Paul Crawford was the winner in the end and walked away €300 happier and in tow had the SCOOP Poker Open Trophy (right) that was kindly made and donated by our friends at the CAST Foundry in Dublin.

The SCOOP raised €490 on the day but indeed the SCOOP ball was rolling, and we were hungry for more!

Art Auction & Exhibition. July 2009

Our second event was the SCOOP Art Auction in Pygmalion in the Powerscourt Centre. The event was the brain-child of SCOOP Founders Andy and George and was the event that really helped kick off the SCOOP.

We had some incredible art for sale and raised €12,555 on the day! Highlights of the day were from Shane Sutton, Sarah Sheil, Mo Kelly, Danleo, Paul Christopher Flynn (who sold for €2,150!), Nina DiVito, Jason Dunne, Alan Clark, Dave Comiskey, Christopher Sweeney and of course our very own George Mealy in his first ever performance as auctioneer. He received a standing ovation for his performance and we were all awfully proud of him. See our myspace page for pics of the day and of all the pieces.

Lost Propery Re-Union Sale. July 2009

With this event we wanted to re-unite the people of Dublin with all those jackets, jumpers, hats, scarves, umbrella and pairs of tights (yes, a pair of tights) to those who had embarked on a night to remember, though woke up with a hangover they'd rather forget and no jacket! We collected unclaimed lost property from some of Dublin best venues (The Academy, Twisted Pepper, The Village, The Bernard Shaw) and sold them back to people for a small profit! Also on the day our very own Calvin Sweeney aka Calvin James Sweeney played for a mammoth 10 hours on the decks to raise funds for the A-Z Children's Charity based in Uganda.

SCOOP Saturday in association with Bodytonic Music

In August 2009 we organised an entire day of varied events with our good friends at Bodytonic and called it: 'SCOOP Saturday'.

It began with a 5-a-side footie competition during the day. It was then over to the Bernard Shaw venue for a BBQ and chilled tunes (for al those aching bones) and then we capped the day off with a 3 floor music and comedy extravaganza in the Twisted Pepper. We raised just over €3,000!

The SCOOP Winter Art Auction in Film Base. November 2009

We hosted our second Art Auction & Exhibition in November. This time round we held it in Film Base in Temple Bar, Dublin. Again we were overwhelmed by the talent, kindness and generousity off all the artists who participated. This time round we raised slightly over €4,500!

All the pieces can be found here.

The SCOOP Comedy Extravaganza @ The Sugar Club, May 2010.The SCOOP Comedy Gig

The SCOOP took over The Sugar Club on Saturday night, the 8th of May and packed it full of side-splitting laughter and some of the best new and young comedians in Ireland today.

There was no usual stand up here! Each and every comedian had brought something new to the art of comedy, and it looks like the Irish will continue to shine as the best comedians in the world.

Hosting the night we had our good mate Emmet Kirwan (from RTE's 'Sarah & Steve) and headliners for the night came were Ireland's top comedy group the 'Diet of Worms'. Also performing were Hugh Cooney, Voicebox aka Cian Hallinan and Enda MacNally. And just because we could and he was so kind to agree, we had the whole night begin with the beautiful music of James Vincent McMorrow.

All other pics of the night can be found........here!

The SCOOP World Cup Opening Fundraiser Party. The 11th of June 2010The 2010 World Cup Opening Ceremony Party

The SCOOP took over Melody Bar on Capel to celebrate the beginning of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but also to celebrate the fusion of African and Irish culture in Dublin.

In conjunction with ASSA (African School's Sport Aid) we organised an enitre day and night of football, live music, entertainment, prizes and drink!!

Headlining the night we had our old dear friends, the 9 piece funk group, the excellent, The Candidates, as well as Dublin reggae legends the Seven Deadly Skins. Also playing were our new friends Battered Soul and world music group Madu.

In between acts we had the children's dance group Afro Kideo; a mix of Irish and African kids who perfrom traditonal and contemporary African dances.

More pics of the night here.

The SCOOP's dear friend Rubio also took some sweet pics of the night, here.

The SCOOP Baby Rave, 13th of June 2010The SCOOP Baby Rave

We celebrated our 1st birthday with a huge children's party! We figured we were always running different events but none that had catered for children.

So we booked out the state of the art venue at Wood Quay, the most historic site in Dublin. We packed the day full of young children, their families plus an array of music, dancing, puppet shows, magic shows, face painting, balloon modelling, musical instruments, art, puzzles, obstacle courses, children's yogi workshops and fun fun fun!

It actually turns out Young at Art, a Northern Irish charity own the trademark and copyright that is the 'Baby Rave' so alas this was the first and last SCOOP Baby Rave. We apologise to them for not knowing they use the name, and we thank them for letting us use the name this time round.

But what's a name wha? We'll always celebrate our birthday in June with something for the kids. Just no raving is all ;)

Love SCOOP Hate Racism, 20th of August 2010

(poster designed by Igor Kochajkiewicz.)

The SCOOP collaborated with Love Music Hate Racism and put the together the wonderful Summer's night that was Love SCOOP Hate Racism.

On Friday night, the 20th of August we invaded the 3 floors of Sweeney's Mongrel on Dame Lane with some of the best live and spun music around.

On the top floor we had Eamon and the leaids from Creamy Goodness, Robotnik, The Zealots, Patrick Kelleher, Squarehead and Barrie Cassidy performing. In the middle floor, Martin Ansbro and Glider DJs Tanya Sweeney and Cillian McDonnell played the best in indie and dance floor fillers.

In the basement, top Dublin DJs Calvin James, Lil Dave, Stef Hoffman and Sophie de Vere also played and kept everyone happy til 2.30am!

We also had a pretty sweet raffle from 2 VIP Electric Picnic tickets. Congratulations to Adrian Bracken from TCD who won 'em, and a big shout out to Siobhan, Niall, Dave, Elaine and the rest of the gang at the Pod who donated the tickets!

If you are on Facebook, you can see all the pics here.

On Tuesday the 14th of September, we launched our 2nd annual Art Auction & Exhibition in the hope of raising €35,000 in order to build a brand new, three floored, concrete built school in Cambodia that will not only create a place to educate up to 250 local Cambodian children, it will also become the centre for a community in an impoverished area outside Phnom Pehn.

On the day of the auction, Sunday the 19th, we raised 20k which in these times I think you'll agree is some accomplishment; and even though we may not have hit our target, we are still in the position to begin the building of the school, and a couple more fundraisers in the coming months will see it be completed, we're hoping for January or February latest.

The day itself was, as always, interesting and a great privilege to be a part of. We were awfully proud of the art involved. Bad weather meant numbers were down, we only had 32 bidders in the room. Though 20k is still rather good from 32 people I think you'll agree. The auctioneer, our very own George Mealy, played an absolute blinder and the 3 hours flew in and then alas it was all over, though our goal remains!

You can see some photos of the show here.

SCOOP Art Auction & Exhibition 2011

The Center For Creative Practices, Dublin. Sept. 8th - Sept. 11th

now into it's 3rd year (my how they grow up fast!), the SCOOP's Annual Art Auction boasted its best collection of work, which all went under the hammer of the SCOOP's George Gerard Mealy on the 11th of Sept in the wonderful CFCP in Dublin.

This year, raising €11,000, also saw us incorporate more events into the 4 day event, and we had 3 days of wine and DJs and good times! We think we have found our venue for each year's fairing. We would like to thank every artist who took part and donated work, Monika and Ian at the CFCP for doing such a wonderful job of hanging the art, and our very own George Mealy, for giving his time and expertise, depsite being up to his neck with Mealy's Auction 'Tony Ryan' Auction.

See y'all next year ;)
